one of the reasons we started kulturpop was because we tired of sites that were slick, over-refined and pretty empty. the kind of sites that make you go ‘oooh’ when you first see them and then never return because you saw it all the first time and you know it isn’t going to change.

kulturpop was a deliberate attempt to create compelling content and a visual narrative without resorting to expensive, flashy tools and gimmicks. we used an inexpensive off-the-shelf template built on the wordpress platform and tweaked it a little until we had something we were happy with and was flexible enough that we could completely overhaul the site in a couple of hours.
